A Simple Answer To a Stupid Question
If you frequent forums or mailing lists you know there’s a certain Etiquette that must be followed when posting. Stay on topic, use a meaningful title, use proper spelling, grammer and punctuation (loose vs. lose anyone), send plain text (not html) e-mail, and DON’T TOP POST (no yelling either) as the following example explains:
A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
Q: What is the most annoying thing in e-mail?
One of the things that annoys me most is when someone fails to do even the smallest amount of research before asking a question. They’ll ask a question which has been answered multiple times on the list/forum, a simple search would have found it in seconds. Quite often the first result in google will even yield the correct answer. I thought I was doomed to answer these questions forever, but that was before I found the site letmegooglethatforyou.com. Now if someone asks “Why does my HP laserjet say PC Load Letter?”, you can say “http://lmgtfy.com/?q=pc+load+letter&l=1“, and his answer magically appears. The next time someone asks “How many pounds are in a kilogram?”, you’ll be able to reply with “http://lmgtfy.com/?q=1+kg+to+pounds“. With this site your answers will be short and to the point while having the added advantage of making the poster feel like an idiot all with a minimum of effort!
