Atwater Block Brewery’s Vanilla Java Porter
Atwater Block Brewery Vanilla Java Porter – “Wake Up And Smell The Beer”
Information: Site – “Made with fine-roasted coffee beans and vanilla extract, this is one of the most admired beers Atwater offers. Unique and flavorful, with a chocolate malt finish, this beer is a perfect balance of complimentary ingredients.”
To anyone who has ever read one of my beer reviews ought know by now my particulars toward the dark, deeply rich, and heavy beers like porters, stouts, and the like. Conversely, have you, sadly, not partaken in my write-ups, please, take a second to peruse my history. Go on, I can wait… See? I told you so. So it comes as quite a treat when I can find a new, in this case, porter that I haven’t drunk yet. Drunk… get it? Anyway, on to the quite amazing Atwater Block Vanilla Porter…
The pour is dark. Yeah, we can all surmise that from the simple fact that it’s a porter. It has a quick head that rapidly dissipates, as is the norm for quite a few beers of its ilk. The aroma is so chock full of rich and sweet coffee scents that, were you to close your eyes, you could easily mistake it for an iced coffee itself. It’s just that perfect. Aside from the obvious vanilla that is definitely there, there also seems to be a back ground of mocha and cocoa. It’s an absolute treat just to smell!
Slightly bitter; nothing too uncommon for something inundated with coffee, but just as sweet and creamy. Funnily enough, the essence of porter kind of loses its, I don’t know, personality when it becomes so stuffed with such strong and all-encompassing flavors. But who cares. I’ve had enough of Plain Jane beers so when a company decides to put it all on ‘black’ -get it?- then I’m on board all the way. This beer has the two beverages a love the most in life and there’s no good reason not to enjoy the hell out of it.

A Porter with vanilla and coffee? I can see absolutely nothing wrong with this.
