Black Swamp Find and the National Sports Collectors Convention

The biggest news in sports collecting is the recent discovery of the “world’s greatest attic find” of baseball cards in Defiance, Ohio. The collection has been named the Black Swamp Find, and has been consigned to Heritage Sports Collectibles. Estimates on the value of the entire find of 700+ cards is in excess of $3,000,000. The collection was on display this past weekend at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Baltimore, MD with some of the cards sold at Heritage’s Auction on Thursday, August 2 at Camden Yards.

We decided to visit the collection in person, and captured the following photos on Friday afternoon. Collectors nearby admired the set, and could not believe how bright and vibrant the cards were.

The National Show was also an occasion to acquire some paid autographs, and we were able to spot a few of our sports heroes greeting fans with pen in hand. Check out the photos below of Jamal Lewis, Bill Mazerowski, Joe Washington, Lou Brock, and Whitey Herzog.

While the Black Swamp Find and signing athletes were certainly the stars of the show, there were literally hundreds of booths setup on the floor. Each of those booths had thousands of pieces of sports memorabilia, of every type imaginable. Check out the gallery below to get an idea of vast scope of the National Sports Collectors Convention :
