Cooking Competitions Turn Up the Heat

Yeah, the title was lame, but these competitions aren’t. We’re big fans of competitive cooking shows here at Gunaxin, as they are some of the only reality shows that are actually based in reality. So we’re pretty excited about what the Food Network has coming our way on January 3rd :

First up is Iron Chef America’s Super Chef Battle :

Emeril Lagasse and Mario Batali take on Bobby Flay and White House Chef Comerford, each team creating the ultimate meal using the White House Garden’s bounty. An Iron Chef America Event. Super Chef Battle. Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 8p/7c on Food Network.

The idea to create a White House garden was fairly smart. The idea to use that garden as the secret ingredient in a battle on Iron Chef America is pure genius. That two hour event is followed up by the premier of a new show, Worst Cooks in America:

Twelve of the most hopeless cooks in the country will compete in a high-stakes elimination series in Worst Cooks in America. At stake for the last two standing is the chance to cook for a panel of esteemed culinary critics and win the grand prize of $25,000. This six-week series will put the “recruits” through a culinary boot camp led by two acclaimed chefs: Anne Burrell, host of Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, and Beau MacMillan, executive chef at elements in Phoenix.

Beau 75x75We recently had the opportunity to conduct a fun interview with one of the team captains from Worst Cooks in America, Beau MacMillan. Beau stars in this new show, has his own restaurant, is Personal Chef to Wayne Gretzky, has defeated Bobby Flay on Iron Chef America, and today he answers Gunaxin’s Six Questions.
