Chris and John Trogner (the Troegs Brothers) started Troegs Brewing Company in 1996 in Harrisburg, Pa. Troegs Brewing Company currently distributes their beers within 3 hours of the the brewery which includes PA, NJ, DE, MD, and VA. According to their site:

“Today, the brewery produces nine different beers including Hopback Amber Ale, Troegenator Doublebock, Rugged Trail Ale, Tröegs Pale Ale, Nugget Nectar (seasonal) Dead Reckoning Porter (seasonal), Sunshine Pils (seasonal), The Mad Elf (seasonal), and distributes its product in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia.”

I poured a nice tall glass from my 22 oz bottle of Troegs’ Mad Elf Ale and then I noticed that it’s 11%, which is awesome, but it’s Thursday. So, like I said above, I’m feeling good now. I’ve described holiday beers as either being winter warmers (high alcohol content) or winter spice beers, this beer fits into both categories.

The Mad Elf Ale is brewed with Honey and Cherries and the first thing out of my mouth when I tasted this beer was Mmm…mmm. This is just a fantastic beer, it’s smooth, not too sweet, but not too bitter, either. You might think that the high alcohol content would be overpowering, but it’s not, it’s noticeable, but not distracting from the beer. If you can find this beer, try it.
