Dickel Whiskey and Serious BBQ

When Gunaxin is invited to eat barbecue and sip whiskey, we don’t say no. Especially when the barbecue is prepared by celebrity chef and author of Serious Barbecue, Adam Perry Lang, and the Whiskey is George Dickel’s finest. If that doesn’t sound cool enough- the dinner took place on the back lot of Jimmy Kimmel LIVE. A quaint southern set-up, smack dab in the middle of Hollywood.

Before we get into the delicious details, check out the back story here:

I am ashamed to say that just a couple months ago I declared to my friends and family that I was going Vegan. A decision that crashed and burned on a recent trip to NASCAR and ended in the all out grand finale that was this dinner.

The evening started in the green room of Jimmy Kimmel, where we watched my Lord and Savior Oprah, live with Jimmy. After the interview we moved outside for a concert by The Wanted. Jumping up and down with every seventeen year old girl in Los Angeles is an excellent way to work up an appetite.

After the concert we moved over to the most amazing dining area. A little piece of country sitting beneath a fully stocked Dickel bar. Around us: a two-ton, custom Texas burn pit, multiple Big Green Egg outdoor cookers, and an Airstream trailer that could convince anyone that redneck can be chic.

Dickel brand ambassador, Doug Kragel walked us through the Dickel tasting as we ate our way through, what felt like a 500 course meal. Every smokey, smooth variation of Dickel paired beautifully with Adam’s amazing creations. My favorites: melt in your mouth brisket, the Dickel Barrel Select, and a potato salad that changed my outlook on life.

The evening was shared with a table full of bloggers who were unwilling to set down their forks to reach for their buzzing Blackberrys. It was THAT GOOD.

If you live in the LA area, you can experience Adam’s food too! The pop up barbecue joint where we were treated to this fantastic dinner, is open to the public, Tuesday- Thursday until September 5th.

If you don’t make it out, you can create your own barbecue magic by purchasing Adam’s book, Serious BBQ and the Dickel Whiskey of your choice. I highly recommend the Dickel Barrel Select. Aged between 10–12 years, this 86-proof gem provides a consistently smooth taste, perfect balance, rich amber color and a hint of vanilla. The best part is, Barrel Select is extremely affordable- so you can impress your guests without breaking the bank.

A huge thank you to Adam Perry Lang, Doug Kragel and the folks at Jimmy Kimmel LIVE for an amazing experience!
