[The beer] is inspired by old-world brewing methods and this bewitching all-malt brew is a darkly rich, exotic lager, crafted with a touch of magical New Orleans spirit.”

Blindly reaching into the fridge to excavate another beer from my World Market ‘Winter Brew’ 9-pack variety box, I came out with this bizarre bottle of brew: Dixie Blackened Voodoo Lager. The label is an eclectic and eerie menagerie of a Louisiana swamp festooned with eyes! Very Halloween!

The pour is a very deep amber color with little to no head. The first whiff is rife with heavy malts and an almost vanilla nose.  There is little to no bitterness, which makes sense because it is brewed so heavily with malts. But the smell is almost like caramel, and it’s very nice.

Yes, the flavor is no different: a full-on solid malt mouth-feel with a slight hint of something spicy, almost mildly peppery and floral, with that definitive vanilla body. Very nice, quite smooth, and I can catch a little similarity to a buttery Port wine! Such a complex ladder of varying flavors. Though it is a Lager (German for storage; a type of beer that is stored for at least three weeks before being served) it doesn’t have that stereotypical Lager lightness that accompanies so many other beers. This is kind of fruity/flowery, nutty, almost like a toffee. It is a very delicious beer. Match this beauty with a rice dish and roast chicken. Awesome.

This beer is malty-sweet with notes of nuttiness and caramels, yet goes down smooth and light.
