DVD Pick of the Week 11/11/08

Gunaxin.com’s DVD Pick of the Week

Hey look at that two days early this week. We’ll see if I can keep this up.

There are a few good, and not so good, DVDs out this week. One of my favorite TV shows is getting re-released on Blu-Ray. That TV show is the short-lived Fox series Firefly, Firefly was a scifi comedy by Buffy The Vampire Slayer writer Joss Whedon. If you haven’t seen it check out the new blu-ray or the DVD.

Another new DVD out this week is Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It’s the newest addition to the Star Wars series. Anakin and his Padowan must track down Jabba the Hut’s son “Stinky”, who’s been kidnapped by Count Dooku. I had hoped this would be a worthy addition to my Star Wars library but it looks like this one is more Episode I than Empire.

The next DVD I’ll look at is Hellboy II: The Golden Army, you thought this was the winner because of the picture, didn’t you. This is the newest film by Guillermo Del Toro, the guy behind Pan’s Labyrinth, his visual style combined with a giant red guy, lots of action, and an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes makes this a movie I want to see.

This week we have a dual winner Scrubs Season Seven and Chuck Season One. Chuck is a geek who works at a Best Buy like store as part of their Geek Squad like department, his friend sends him “The Intercept” a collection of data about foreign agents and much more. This Intercept gets downloaded into Chuck’s head (I know it sounds a bit far fetched), and then Chuck ends up going on CIA missions with his Hot CIA Handler. Scrubs of course has been out for several seasons, this is one of those shows that often gets quoted when I’m around friends and family. According to Wikipedia:

“The show focuses on the lives of several people working at Sacred Heart, a teaching hospital. It features fast-paced dialogue, slapstick, and surreal vignettes presented mostly as the daydreams of the central character, Dr. John Michael “J.D.” Dorian.”

Scrubs was cancelled by NBC after it’s seventh season, but has been picked up by ABC and scheduled for a midseason return.
