Gorilla Glass : Is it on Yours?

Gorilla-Glass-FallIf you’re anything like us, your smartphone and your tablet go everywhere with you, and are subjected to some fairly rough treatment. When we’re traveling, we do all of our work from our mobile devices, so they have to be able to put up with everything we throw at them, or else we’re out of business. Through the magic of smartphones and social media, just over the past few months we’ve taken you with us virtually on trips to Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Maine, and Chicago. Every step of the way our smartphones were with us, and withstood a barrage of abuse. With each new device we buy, we want it to be thinner, lighter, and we expect it to be even tougher. Luckily for us Corning® Gorilla® Glass 4 is up to the challenge as the toughest cover glass yet.

Corning has been manufacturing Gorilla Glass for our favorite devices since 2007, and the current fourth generation product has been formulated to deliver dramatically improved drop performance while maintaining the thinness and lightness of previous versions. We won’t bore you with all of the details, but there is some brilliant mad scientist stuff going into this glass. We’re talking proprietary fusion manufacturing and chemical strengthening through an ion-exchange process.

Gorilla Glass 4 performs up to 2x better than competitive glass designs in devices dropped from 3 feet high. We’re not going to lie, we’ve dropped a smartphone or two in our lifetime and are glad to hear that devices with Gorilla Glass 4 are better able to withstand damage from drops. It also provides exceptional resistance to scratches, for those times when you accidentally put your keys in the wrong pocket. Let’s face it, you can’t fix stupid, and we’re all going to continue doing ridiculous things to our phones. So it’s good to know there is a product out there that helps protect our devices from ourselves.
