Is Pepe the King Prawn Cool?

No article from Gunaxin this week has drawn more criticism than The Ten Worst Muppets, with Bunsen Honeydew and Pepe the King Prawn bringing the most criticism and debate.

People who claim Bunsen should not be on the list seem to believe that Bunsen is funny without Beaker (check out Gunaxin’s Tribute to Beaker). I don’t really think that’s up for debate – Bunsen is virtually nothing without Beaker.

However, Pepe the King Prawn, who is numero uno on the list, drew comments saying everything from “Pepe sucks” to “Pepe is the BEST.”

Seeing that this Muppet didn’t come out until 1996, six years after Jim Henson’s death, we’ll never know if this freaky character would have gotten Henson’s personal stamp of approval.

While demographics may be an issue here (those who grew up without Pepe may be less likely to appreciate him than those who did), I don’t see how we can do anything but put it to a vote.
