It’s about time someone made a music video that explains, in fantastically accurate detail, the trials and tribulations of millennials entering the job market. Sung to the tune of Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5, this version updates the lyrics for Generation Y.

The video stars Jessica Rae and is directed by Sara Gallagher.

Lyrics:
Hopping off my bike and heading into Starbucks
Out of almond milk and that sucks
I’ll head to Grumpy’s but damn they’re always mean

Weaving through the streets I guess I’m late now
This sext should wait but I’ll send it somehow
Shouldn’t these sheep already be at their jobs?

Workin’ 9 to 5
They have GOT to be kiddin’
I have STUFF to do, postin’ pix of cats in mittens
They don’t understand that this job is makin’ me crazy
but I have to try not to look too lazy

9-5 hashtag sweari’mnotahipster
I should be the boss or at least the art director
Want to live off grid, I hate working at this trainwreck
Got to choose between my soul and this paycheck

They hate my report, and yes I guess I’m bitter
Didn’t get my raise cuz I sent it via Twitter
But I got self-esteem they’ll never take away

In a two-bedroom with 10 of my friends
Waiting for the day my promotion comes in
Never ever goin’ back to my parents basement again

Workin’ 9 to 5
They have GOT to be kiddin’
I have STUFF to do, postin’ pix of cats in mittens/posting pix of last night’s chicken
They don’t understand that this job is makin’ me crazy
But I have to try not to look too lazy
