Obama Orders Chevrolet and Dodge Out Of NASCAR
Car and Driver has broke the controversial story, in which the White House demands that GM and Chrysler must cease participation in NASCAR in order to receive any additional financial aid from the government. Although an “optional” choice, the struggling automakers are bound to take it in order to remain solvent. Sponsorship would be withdrawn after the current season, leaving effected racing teams to search for a new automaker in time for next year’s Daytona 500. Ford and Toyota will remain with the racing series, and NASCAR has begun pursuit of other manufacturers to fill Chevrolet and Dodge’s void. Hyundai is reportedly tops on the list, although Volkswagen and Saab have shown interest as well. Read more on the story over at Car and Driver.
UPDATE: This was clearly an April 1st hoax, which apparently the readers over at Car and Driver did not get, so the story had been removed. Oh well!
