The Palazzo – Las Vegas

The Palazzo is a luxury hotel and casino resort that opened in 2008, adjoining the The Venetian on the Las Vegas Strip. It is currently the tallest completed building in Nevada, the second-largest building in the Western Hemisphere in terms of available floor space, and the largest LEED certified building in the United States. As one of the newest resort destination in Las Vegas, the Palazzo contains everything you would expect in modern Vegas accommodations; Hotel, Casino, Shops, Dining, Entertainment, and Nightlife.

We recently had the opportunity to spend several days at the Palazzo, which served as the perfect home-base for our adventures at CES. It was the second time we’ve had the pleasure of exploring the property, after previously spending a memorable Super Bowl Weekend on site with Lexus. The all-suite hotel offers some of the largest standard accommodations on the Vegas Strip at 720 square feet per guest room, and all of that space is clearly one of our favorite features.

Overall the rooms are large and luxurious, and the decor sets a classic tone. The bedroom features a comfy white bed with high quality linens and pillows framed in a massive headboard. The flatscreen TV mounted above a light-up marble top dresser is perfectly situated for relaxed viewing, but the sluggish interface proved to be a bit frustrating.

The bedroom is separated from the sunken living room with a fabulous marble topped half-wall, which was actually quite functional for unpacking of suitcases. That area also houses the remote for one of our favorite features of the room, the power roman shade. At the push of a button from bed, you can either welcome the voyeurs from near-by hotels into your Vegas nightlife, or shutout the sun which seems to rise far too early in the desert.

The living room features a large sectional sofa, a desk, small table, and a hutch housing a second TV and mini bar. At first glance the layout seems to make perfect use of the over-sized room, providing ample space to relax or even get some work done.

However closer inspection of the furniture reveals some puzzling choices as the pieces included are among the most uncomfortable we’ve encountered. The fabric on the sectional also had a curious way of highlighting every stain it has ever absorbed. The multifunction printer/fax/scanner on a cart took up too much space by the desk, and that entire corner was a mess of cords which hardly matched the elegance of the room. Despite being a recent addition to the strip, overall the room lacked some of the modern amenities in terms of charging and interfacing with our devices that we’ve found at other properties.

The luxurious bathroom continues the theme from the rest of the room, spacious and covered in marble. A separate bath and shower make great use of the space, and we’re sure the lady folks appreciate the makeup vanity. The bathroom features a welcome 3rd flat screen in the room, although its mounting seems like an afterthought, and it functions on a different service than the other two, and thus does not synch channel numbers or timing.

Overall the room was spacious, luxurious, and well appointed. The impact of the room when you first walk-in is undeniable, it’s gorgeous and inviting. However some poor choices for furniture and technology left the room already feeling dated, 6 years after the grand opening of the Palazzo. We’re left wondering if those choices were made on purpose though, to get you out of your room and onto the casino floor.

That is where the Palazzo truly shines. With high ceilings and modern ventilation, the Palazzo is one of the least smoke infested Casinos you’ll find on the strip. Pair that with luxurious shopping and dining choices, and the Palazzo is a premier destination for folks who enjoy the bright modern Vegas, over the dark, crowded, smoke-filled joints of the past.

The Palazzo is also home to our favorite Sportsbook in Las Vegas, Lagasse’s Stadium. It’s a modern take on the traditional Sportsbook with stadium seating, comfortable couches, and amazing food to go along with the big screens and betting windows.

Adjoining the Palazzo is the equally fabulous Venetian, with its Gondola rides, never-ending day-lit shopping promenade, and the amazing Tao Nightclub. The two properties combined offer everything the modern traveler could want in a resort, and a little taste of Italy on the Vegas strip.
