Drafted in the first round by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2002 out of high school, Cole Hamels has made quick progress in getting to the Major League. Since debuting in 2006, he has established himself as a top young left-handed pitcher. Considered the ace of the Phillies pitching rotation, Hamels has been one of the most consistent starters in the club. Hamels will shoulder the majority of the burden to keep the Devil Rays at bay in the World Series.

In his first career playoff win, Hamels pitched 8 strong innings with 9 strikeouts in Game 1 of the 2008 NLDS against the Milwaukee Brewers. Hamels was named MVP of the NLCS by going 2-0 in the series with a 1.93 ERA, winning the series clincher on October 16 in Los Angeles.

Kyle Kendrick is another Philadelphia Phillies pitcher who managed to hook a former contestant on Survivor. After Phillies pitcher, Freddy Garcia was placed on the Disabled List, Kendrick was called up to the Majors. Though Kendrick began the season as the Phillies’ number four starter, he was arguably the most consistent member of the rotation. Due to some of his struggles during the season, Kendrick was not added to the roster of players who will appear in the World Series.
