Porn by Numbers : an Infographic

Our friends at Asylum recently shared this graphic, so we thought we’d break it down a bit, while assuming it is all valid. If it is not, we give credit for creating a chart with believable numbers.

1. 43% of all internet users view pornographic material and 1 out of 3 are women. So approximately 14% of women online view porn. That means about 14% of women are as perverted as you are. Congrats, good luck finding one of them to admit it.
2. Sex and Porn are Top 5 searches for kids under 18. This makes sense. They have yet to see enough to develop specific tastes yet. Just like with alcohol, you start boring, Bud, PBR, Coors, and then as you get older you get more sophisticated and start ordering watered down martini’s like James Bond. I know my porn searches start with black big breasted midgets in nurses outfits, and only get more specific from there.
3. The average time for watching porn is 15 minutes. Now assuming 1 out of 3 people watching porn is a woman we can assume that they are extending this time by a bit. So we’ll cut this in half and figure that the average guy can last for 7.5 minutes. HA! Take that movie stereotypes about guys and sex! We’ve got you beat by a good 250%
4. Only 3% of adult websites are buzzkills. Honestly anything short of charging money is a joke as far as keeping teenagers away. Unless you are asking for a valid credit card any adult verification will be worked around by a horny teenage boy. Trust me. And even asking for a credit card does not ensure that games are not being played by a teenager.
5. Only 35% of all downloads are pornographic. See, the internet does have other uses. Thank you Bejeweled Blitz, World of Warcraft and Mafia Wars!
6. 10% of porn users admit to being addicted to pron. I call bullshit. Half of these are people being coerced by someone. See Tiger Woods, David Duchovny, and Michael Douglas. Not saying it is not a problem, just that it is not as bad as people claim.
7. The US is the 4th largest porn industry in the world?!?!?! We’re 4th? America is not allowed to be 4th in anything other than Hockey, Health Care and Serial Killers! We as a country should be ashamed of ourselves. Stop downloading free porn and pay for it! There are starving whores in LA!
8. Big Corporations make millions selling “erotica”. I love the sudden change of language here. A $13.6 Billion industry is not going to be ignored by big corporations no matter how much the Jesus Freaks get mad.
9. Utah consumes more porn than any other state in America (per capita). Repression is the #1 cause of perversion. I grew Catholic, trust me on this.
10. Women make 3x-6x as much as men in Porn. No complaints here at all.
11. 15 new cases of STD in the porn industry each week. Not as alarming as it sounds. Most are curable with antibiotics, although STDs are serious and should not be ignored. This has not destroyed the pron industry as many thought it would. Tough issue, but we are not touching the condoms in porn debate here.
12. Ron Jeremy is the reason why women in porn get paid so much more than men.
