Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassins’ Ball Brings the Violence

Remember Smokin’ Aces? If you do not or otherwise have not heard of the complex but enthralling multiple contract killer film, it makes a fine addition to anyone’s collection of guy movies. It has the three Gs any guy would want: gore, guns and grins. And don’t forget some hot ladies sprinkled in. It was director Joe Carnahan’s attempt at redemption after pissing on studio executives following his abrupt exit from Mission Impossible: III. Guess it worked, as he’s been tabbed as the director of the upcoming A-Team incarnation.

So why do I bring this up? Well the people over at Universal have decided to make another move aimed directly at the young, hip male audience. It is called Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassins’ Ball and it features another go around with an all-star group of assassins, vicious sociopaths and other murderous freelancers . And yes, while the title makes it sound like a sequel, it’s really a prequel. And yes, the original title made reference to Buddy “Aces” Israel (the target that the assassins were literally trying to smoke, get it?), who has nothing to do with this new film. In fact, the target here is Tom Berenger’s character Walter Weed. Seems like a missed opportunity to call this movie Smokin’ Weed, but I digress. And yes, sadly you don’t get to see Ben Affleck eat it again. So with that in mind, why should you watch it?

Well, for one, returning from the original are cast members Tommy Flanagan (Lazlo Soot), Maury Sterling (Lester Tremor) and Christoper Michael Holley (Beanie). And if that’s not enough for you, some lovely ladies have joined the cast including Martha Higareda and Autumn Reeser. Here’s a visual preview to whet you appetite:

But the real draw here is more murder, mayhem, and explosive action than ever. So why not sit back and enjoy a mindless movie full of action, explosion, hot chicks, and violence? After all, variety is the spice of life.
