2018 has been a a strong year so far for the U.S. vehicle market. The firs two quarters of this year saw more than 8.6 million units sold. According to automotive research giant Kelly Blue Book, that marks a year to date (YTD) year-over-year of almost 2%. The pickup truck portion of the automotive market has been very active as well. The YTD sales are nearing 1.5 million with no signs of slowing down. It seems more and more consumers are turning away from the standard passenger car and sedan. Here are the top five selling trucks in America right now.

5) GMC Sierra

The GMC Sierra has always been a top contender in terms of pickup sales but tends to still fly a bit under the radar. Just over 100,000 of these models have already been sold in 2018. This marks a 1.7% rise in sales from the previous year. The GMC Sierra is priced reasonably starting at 29,000 USD with financing options when purchased through GMC financial. The Sierra gets an average 18 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway. This pickup can tow up to 12,500 lbs. and has 420 horsepower. The GMC boasts some impressive perks such as a quiet, noise cancelling cabin for a smooth ride and steps in the rear bumper for easy bed access. This model has an available 6.2 L v8 for those who want the upgrade in power and performance.

4) Toyota Tacoma

The Toyota Tacoma flew into popularity this year with a whopping 22.9% increase in sales form the previous year. This model has sold over 116,000 units and is showing no sign of slowing down. It costs around $25,400 new and is ‘built for the endless weekend’ according to Toyota. The Tacoma has an estimated MPG rating at 18/22 (city/highway). There are six different Tacoma models available ranging from the basic SR to the TRD Pro. All of the models are double cab and 4×4. The Tacoma comes stock with a 3.5 L v-6 engine with an Atkinson-cycle. These models are built with high-strength steel that is lighter and strong than traditional steel, making the Tacoma more durable without adding more weight. Toyota has constructed this model to carry 1440 pounds of weight or to tow 6800 pounds. Additional features such as engine and cabin upgrades are available in the Tacoma’s other models.

3) Ram 1500

Despite seeing sales drop 6.7% so far in 2018, the Ram pickup remains the third top-selling pickup of the year. The Ram 1500 starts just under $27,300 and is one of the most versatile trucks on the market. There are five different models of the Ram Pickup for sale. These include the Tradesmen, Express, Big Horn, Rebel and Sport. Each model comes with 4×2 or 4×4 build options. All models except for the Sport can be purchased with larger cabs for extra room. Chevy is pricing the Silverado at $28,300. The Silverado 1500 is carrying the title of “Most Dependable Large Light-Duty Pickup” from a survey of their 2015 models. The Chevy Silverado gets an impressive 22 mpg on highway and 18 in city. This model comes equipped with a 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine that packs 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It has a 6-speed automatic transmission and is capable of towing 12,500 pounds. The Chevy Silverado boasts a roll-formed, high-strength steel bed that is said to last longer than the competitors. This model comes with three different box lengths and has a max payload capacity 2,250 pounds.

1) Ford F-150

With almost half a million units sold, the Ford F-Series is the top selling pickup truck so far this year. This growth in sales is exponential with a 4.9% increase from the previous year. The Ford F-150 has received a Motor Trend Truck of the Year Award. The F-Series starts at $27,705. The standard engine for this model is a 2.7 L v6 EcoBoost, although there are several upgrade options for those looking for a model with more power. The Ford F-Series has a long list of top in-class features, truly securing this model’s spot as the highest sold truck of the year. The Ford F-150 has a towing capacity of 13,200 pounds and a payload capacity of 3,270 pounds. One of the breakthrough features offered on the Ford F-Series is the trailer back-up assist that makes it easier to maneuver with a trailer. Many other features such as the dynamic hitch assist and blind spot information system make towing much easier on the driver.
