We have it on good authority that today, August 10th, happens to be National S’mores day. We’re definitely going to celebrate by making some gooey goodness later tonight, but we were curious about the history. Let’s see what Wikipedia has to say about the favorite summer campfire treat :

S’more appears to be a contraction of the phrase “some more”. The first recorded version of the recipe can be found in the publication Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts of 1927. Although the exact origin is unclear, reports as early as 1925 describe them.
